The Goddess is honored as Siddhidatri\, the giver of wisdom and ful fillment\, and the sacred Navami Homa is offered into the fire to complete the days of puja before her victory on Vijaya Dashami.\n\n\n\n\n\nII\n\nT he Story of Maa Durga\nThe demon Mahishasura won a boon that no man or god could defeat him\, and drove the gods from heaven. The gods joined their divine energies\, and from that light Maa Durga was born. Shiva gave her h is trident\, Vishnu his discus\, Indra his thunderbolt. Riding her lion\, she fought Mahishasura for nine days.
